We have the special gift of two mystical musical women guiding Soundscape tonight. Vocalist, yoga teacher and therapeutic sound artist Jessica, has been singing and crafting music since she could speak. A graduate of the Open Center’s Sound and Music Integrative Practitioner training, she leads workshops and retreats merging yoga with sound healing and voice, and creates soundscapes for yoga classes, meditation events and sound baths globally. Among her beloved mentors are voice teachers Silvia Nakkach and Bisan Toron, tuning fork pioneer John Beaulieu, and classical North Indian voice teacher Prakhar Utkarsh. Musician, birth doula, herbalist, and teacher Shivani has been traveling the world and enjoying a colorful tapestry of music and healing genres since childhood. With a Master’s in Music Therapy degree, and continuous in-depth work with Himalayan and Indian plants and music of Bhutan and India, she’s delighted to be studying classical Indian Voice with Samarth Nagarkar-Ji, a variety of singing bowls/bells with Lama Gembo Dorji in Bhutan, and Peruvian, Ecuadorian, Lakota, and BC medicine music with various indigenous teachers, including Susana Tapia Leon. Together, the three of us will create an experience that is both uplifting and deeply nourishing, through the healing nature of breath, sound and motion.
